9TH MEETING OF THE DANUBE LOCAL ACTORS PLATFORM

 

Over 35 representatives from civil society, municipalities, international organisations, public administration and research gathered on 5 and 6 March at the 9th Meeting of the Danube Local Actors Platform in Vienna. The meeting aimed at exchanging on recent developments in the EU Danube Strategy and to launch the discussion on future stakeholder cooperation in view of the revised EUSDR Action Plan.

 

COOPERATION IN THE DANUBE REGION OF THE FUTURE – REVISION OF THE EUSDR ACTION PLAN

In autumn 2018, the Bulgarian EUSDR Presidency launched the revision of the EUSDR Action Plan. After a consultation phase within the Steering Groups of the 12 Priority Areas, the National Coordinators decided on the next steps. After a presentation of the state of play by the Danube Strategy Point, the participants discussed challenges and needs for the future cooperation within Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity and Cooperation”.

Regarding institutional capacity building, the participants particularly stressed the importance of increasing know-how for co-designing policies and cross-sectoral policy-making, increasing digitisation in public administration, and enhancing cross-border public service provision. The members of the Danube Local Actors Platform also called for a stronger establishment of participatory methods in decision-making processes accompanied by trust building activities. Against this background, the participants named National Participation Days as well as the Danube Participation Day as proved format to support this endeavour. In terms of funding, the participants identified a clear need for more inclusive funding that also offers opportunities for small and/or unexperienced organisations in order to introduce them to macro-regional cooperation. Furthermore, there was a clear demand to better coordination between EU Funding.

The results of the discussion will be compiled and presented to the Steering Group of Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity and Cooperation”.

 

REJUVENATING THE DANUBE STRATEGY

The members of the Danube Local Actors Platform further discussed the next Danube Participation Day that will be organised back-to-back with the EUSDR Annual Forum in Bucharest. This year’s motto is youth participation and empowerment in the Danube Region. In view of the revision of the EUSDR Action Plan, the Danube Participation Day 2019 is dealing with the question of how to establish sustainable cohesion in the Danube Region and make the actions of the EUSDR Action Plan work for the next generations.

The results of the 9th Meeting of the Danube Local Actors Platform will be compiled in the minutes and published on the website of Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity and Cooperation”.

 

DANUBE LOCAL ACTORS PLATFORM (D-LAP)

Priority Area 10 created the Danube Local Actors Platform (D-LAP) in order to provide an inclusive platform for the exchange and cooperation of local actors in the Danube Region. The members of the Danube Local Actors Platform meets to prepare the annual Danube Participation Day of the EUSDR as well as exchange and discuss current and planned projects and initiatives of the members of the D-LAP.
