ATTRACTIVE DANUBE: MONITORING TERRITORIAL ATTRACTIVENESS

From 21 to 22 June 2017, the ATTRACTIVE DANUBE project had a Steering Committee Meeting in Belgrade (RS) hosted by the Institute of Architecture, Urban & Spatial Planning of Serbia (IAUS). The project partners used the opportunity to exchange on their experiences with the first steps of implementing the project that started in the beginning of 2017.

ATTRACTIVE DANUBE is aiming at strengthening multi-level and transnational governance and institutional capacities of policy planners involved in territorial development by establishing a permanent common transnational platform for monitoring territorial attractiveness. So far, the project partners organised their first round of national workshops. At the meeting in June, the project partners discussed the active participation of stakeholders, new indicators for territorial attractiveness as well as approaches to attract experts and citizens. The results of the discussion will be used to prepare the second round of workshops in September/October 2017.

Rudolf Schicker, coordinator of Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity & Cooperation” and Associated Strategic Partner of the ATTRACTIVE DANUBE project touched upon the contribution of the EU Strategy of the Danube Region and Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity & Cooperation” for regional development and quality of live throughout the Danube Region. In particular, the initiatives of the Danube Investment Facility (DIF) such as START, TAF, the Danube Financing Dialogue, and the current Danube Strategic Project Fund are aiming at facilitating needs-based development in order to make the Danube Region a more attractive place to live.

The meeting was rounded off with a study visit at the river Sava waterfront, one of the biggest, yet controversially discussed development projects in Europe.

The project ATTRACTIVE DANUBE is co-financed by the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme.
