EUROPEAN COMMISSION PUBLISHED 2ND MRS REPORT

The European Commission published its bi-annual report on the implementation of the macro-regional strategies. Following the first report in 2016, the European Commission examined in the recently finalised second report the state of implementation in all four macro-regional strategies – the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region, and the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region.

The report looked at various aspects that are pivotal for the smooth implementation of macro-regional stratgeis such as policy-making and planning, administrative capacity, governance, monitoring, access to funding, communication, and cooperation between strategies. Likewise, the report addresses common challenges of macro-regional strategies and calls for better alignment of funding with the strategies in the funding period 2021-2027.
