Interact is organising an online dialogue on youth role in European cooperation, which will be held on June 23rd, 2020 at 9:30 – 12:00 CET. This debate is co-organised by the European Commission and Interact Programme. As part of the Interreg 30 campaign, this dialogue aims to celebrate cooperation and engage young adults to share their views on their role shaping the future EU cooperation policies.
The discussion will focus on three main questions:
1. What is for you the added value of EU cooperation?
2. What is the most important goal or challenge for young people that should be addressed by the European Territorial Cooperation?
3. What solution could be put in place to make sure young people are well-represented when shaping the EU Territorial Cooperation Policy?
Ideas gathered during the debate will feed into the Manifesto for Young People by Young People to Shape the European Territorial Policy, which will be presented during the Interreg Annual Event Youth session on 15 October 2020.
Why to engage young people? Why now?
Young people between 15 and 29 years old made up 17% of the European Union (EU) population in 2018. Irrespective of their gender, economic situation, social origin and age, they all face common challenges such as weak labour markets and lack of education and training opportunities.
Global crises such as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which bring societal disruptions and economic consequences, may additionally weaken and isolate young people. Interreg has proven to be an efficient tool to enhance the ability of youth to work and learn on both sides of the border, increasing their employability. Youth mobility is a prime mechanism for fostering a sense of European identity and citizenship. Moreover, Interreg promotes transnational networks for helping young entrepreneurs to boost their skills, helping to fight against youth unemployment. It educates young people, in and out of Europe, as well as allows experimenting with new ideas.
Your voice during the discussion and experiences would help to generate ideas that will be later reflected in the Manifesto, as well as support your own discussions on future priorities.
