The European Week of Regions and Cities, also known as #EURegionsWeek, stands as a pivotal annual event held in Brussels, dedicated to cohesion policy. This event has evolved into a neutral platform that gathers a diverse community of stakeholders to deliberate on common challenges faced by Europe’s regions and cities.
In 2022, #EURegionsWeek set records with 20,000 participants, 272 sessions, and 528 partners, reinforcing its role as a premier platform for knowledge exchange, idea sharing, and problem-solving.
Purpose of EURegionsWeek
The #EURegionsWeek serves as a platform for informed dialogues among policymakers, experts, and practitioners, fostering innovative solutions. It also functions as a space for growth and capacity-building, enhancing skills for implementing EU cohesion policy. Furthermore, the event acts as a catalyst for cooperation, promoting collaboration and networking between regions and cities. Moreover, it shapes the discourse on EU cohesion policy by integrating research, international viewpoints, and insights, extending its influence globally.

Empowering Smart Communities – Policy Lab
By fostering civic engagement and sharing experiences from diverse European examples, one of the sessions during EU Regions Week will illustrate how smart communities enhance regional appeal and talent retention. Smart communities are assemblies of individuals who actively partake in shaping their own future. These communities play a vital role in surmounting the challenges of intelligent regional transitions. Fostering civic engagement is crucial to cultivating these smart communities. Through the lens of four European experiences, this session will illuminate how citizens collaboratively contribute within smart communities, thereby enhancing the allure of regions and fortifying their ability to retain talent.
